Change of Name

During the registration process in Kenya (which is still ongoing), we have had to change our name to Kenyan Community Support Initiative (KCSI).

Any reference to KCIS or Kenyan Community Initiative Support within this website does in fact refer to KCSI and will be changed if and when I find them.

Big Thank You to Two Boys in Wash Common

Two boys have cleared out their games and donated a lot of board games and educational games for the Twiga Children's Centre.

I know that these will make the Twiga children very happy and they will get hours of fun from them.

Thank you, boys.

Received - a Big Parcel of Books and other Goodies

Twiga Children's Centre received three parcels of books, pads, pens and other study aids as well as clothes from a well-wisher.

Here, Aloys receives his gifts from Abigael.

Twiga Has Been Glazed!

The windows of the Twiga hut have finally been glazed. It certainly make a different to the look of the place!

It is also another step towards the hut being habitable. Presently, it is part meeting place for the Twiga kids, part storage for various building materials and farming equipment.

We still have a long way to go to make this truly a usable habitation - and of course, we still have to build the two dormitories!

Funds Needed For Registration

KCSI needs funds in order to register as a NGO with the authorities in Kenya.

Update on Esther

We are pleased to be able to tell you that a family in the USA is sponsoring Esther and she is now settling in well in Kisii.

She is attending school, where she is doing well.

Esther has also received a parcel from her sponsor, Amy, in the USA - thank you Amy.

Help needed for 13 year-old girl

We have been contacted by an orphanage in Kajiado regarding one of their children, Esther Nyanduko.

Esther's family lost their home during the post-election violence in 2007 and moved away from the area. The family then suffered abject poverty and Esther and her sister were sent out to work as house girls.

Esther was abused and beaten by her employer, and was eventually rescued by police and taken to the kajiado District Children's Office, then placed with the orphanage. No one at the orphanage speaks Esther's language, Ekegusii, and we surmise that as Kijiado is in Maasailand, not many people speak Kiswahili either. Esther wants to return to her homeland

So Twiga Children's centre was contacted to see is we could help.

We never turn a child away, but our financial resources are stretched to the limit, so we are seeking sponsorship for Esther.

If you can help, please contact KCSI by email.

Generous People in and around Newbury, Berkshire

We have received several boxes of toys and clothes for our children at the twiga Children's Centre in Kisii. David will be taking out as much as he is allowed to carry, ensuring that he has something for each of the 36 or so children.

KCSI wants to thank the members of the NewburyFreegle Group for their generosity.
