KCSI have several welfare projects aimed to help a large section of the poorest people in the community.

Pay Forward

This is a community driven project. Once it has been kick-started by KCSI, it will run at no cost, benefiting every poor family within a community.

The idea is that KCSI buys a chicken (or goat, etc) and gives it to the most deserving within the community (e.g. widow with small children). She collects the eggs to feed her family, but hatches out three eggs. These new chickens are passed on the the next most deserving three families. They, in turn collect their eggs, hatch out three and pass on the new hens.

Eventually, the community will have enough hens to supply themselves with regular, high-protein food, and a surplus of eggs that can be sold.

Micro Finance

Many successful enterprises in Kenya start off with a small loan, usually too small for the banks to even consider.

So, we are listing enterprise projects that we think will succeed and are offering you the possibility to lend some or all of the start-up capital. You will be repaid after a specified period, with interest, however, we find that lenders tend not to want their money back and ask it to be invested in another project.

In this way, this scheme can become self-financing, and many entrepreneurial people start earning enough to feed and educate their families.

Twiga Children's Centre

This is a drop-in centre for orphaned and vulnerable children in the Kisii area. They can attend at weekends and school breaks and socialise and play games, to give them a break from the daily drudge of trying to survive.

At the same time, their situation and health are monitored and if attendees have a problem, they can discuss it with one our the volunteers.

Eventually, Twiga wants to build dormitories for the few children who have nowhere to live.

Crop Pest Control

We are always looking for ways to improve crop yield, usually by finding ways to eradicate pests. One of our Scrapheap projects produces, as a by-product, good, clean fertiliser and we also promote the production and use of compost.
