Our first priority at River Cottage is to grow vegetables
to supplement the diets of the Twiga children. As well as planting the staple, kale, we are trying to grow tomatoes, onions, different beans, caggace, etc.
The kids a lot of the work under guidance, so well
done to them!
Under the River Cottage banner, we are also looking at companion planting and push-pull technology, use of fertiliser, water collection.
Unfortunately, despite the name of this section, we
do not have any help from people like Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall,
although we would be more than happy for any advice or other help.

Challenge:
River Cottage Kenya is a working shamba (smallholding)
where we are growing various vegetable crops that will help feed the
kids at our Twiga Children's Centre. They have been doing most of the
hard work to prepare the land and building fences to protect the seedlings.
Rainwater will be collected from the roof, filtered
and purified using UV from the sun, for drinking water.
We will also be looking at growing alternative cash
crops, mosquito repelling plants, such as geraniums, lemon grass, etc.,
Please help us with this and our other projects - it
is worth it.
